How to Use the Dat Bike Weaver Electric Motorcycle

Master your ride with this comprehensive guide on How to Use the Weaver Electric Motorcycle. From basic controls and safety features to battery management and riding tips, discover everything you need to operate the Dat Bike Weaver efficiently, safely, and with confidence every day.

1. General Introduction

1.1. Electric Motorcycles and Electric Scooters

Electric mopeds – commonly referred to as electric scooters – are defined by the Ministry of Transport as vehicles with a maximum speed of no more than 50 km/h, similar to 50cc gasoline bikes. Currently, all electric two-wheelers on the market fall into this category.

Except yours.

With its outstanding performance, the Dat Bike Weaver is the first electric vehicle in the country to be officially classified as a motorcycle. According to the Ministry of Transport, it is also the only electric vehicle recognized as having a purely “Vietnamese” origin, rather than “Vietnam + foreign.”

As a motorcycle, the Weaver requires a driver’s license. However, only a standard A1 license is needed – there is no requirement for an A2 license.

As an electric vehicle, its license plate includes the designation “MĐ” following the regional code.

2. Vehicle Operation

2.1. Locking System

Dat Bike introduces a completely new approach to securing your vehicle. The bike is equipped exclusively with an electronic key (remote on/off control) and does not use a physical key. This means that without the remote, there is no way to turn the bike on.

Since there is no traditional keyhole, you’ll never have to worry about thieves picking or breaking the lock.

The Weaver is not equipped with a handlebar lock. In reality, handlebar locks contribute very little to theft prevention and can be broken within seconds by experienced thieves.

2.2. Information Displayed on the LCD Screen

Note:

  • ODO / Trip: When the bike is first powered on, this section displays the total distance traveled (ODO). After about 5 seconds, the screen switches to show the distance traveled since the bike was turned on (Trip).
  • While riding, a temporary voltage drop may occur (for example, from 74V to 71V). This is normal for the lithium-ion batteries used by Dat Bike. To accurately determine the remaining battery level, stop the bike briefly and refer to the table below.
  • Battery voltage is the most accurate indicator of the remaining battery capacity. To estimate the battery percentage based on voltage, refer to the following table:
Battery PercentageVoltage
100%82V
80%78V
60%75V
40%71V
20%68V
0%61V

2.3. Control Switches

To maintain a clean and minimal design, Dat Bike uses a single switch cluster instead of the two clusters commonly found on other bikes. The control switches are detailed as follows:

3. Vehicle Operation

3.1. Safety Switch

  • Released (Off): The bike operates normally.
  • Pressed (On): The bike will not respond to the throttle.

This feature is designed to enhance safety. You should get into the habit of activating the safety switch every time you stop, to avoid accidental throttle input.

3.2. Motor Braking (Regenerative Braking)

This is one of the most distinctive riding features of the Weaver compared to other bikes. To slow down, simply release the throttle – the motor will automatically apply braking force. There’s no need to use the brake lever.

Riding becomes much simpler: just “accelerate – release”, instead of the traditional “accelerate – release – brake.”

This special feature also recharges the battery every time you release the throttle, helping extend your riding range. Additionally, brake pads last longer since they are used less frequently.

3.3. Walking the Bike

When the bike is powered on, you may sometimes feel resistance while pushing it. This is because motor braking is active.

To disable it, turn on the safety switch, then gently twist the throttle and release it. After that, the bike will be much easier to move.

You don’t need to worry about turning the braking system back on—it will automatically reactivate when you ride.

3.4. Notes on Using the Hand Brakes

In addition to motor braking, the hand brakes are used when you need to slow down more quickly or come to a complete stop.

For safety, power to the motor is automatically cut off when the brake lever is engaged. To reactivate the motor, you must fully release the brake, return the throttle to zero, and then accelerate again.

If you’re used to lightly dragging the brakes while riding, this safety feature may take some time to get used to.

4. Battery Usage

4.1. Dat Battery 72V

The Dat Battery 72V is researched and developed by Dat Bike, built on LG cell technology. Its capacity, lifespan, and charging time outperform many other products on the market. The battery offers a lifespan of up to 100,000 km, requires only 3 hours to fully charge, and delivers a range of 100 km per charge.

4.2. Charging Indicators

The charger included with the bike features an LED light to indicate charging status:

  • Flashing red – green: Charger is not connected to the battery
  • Flashing red (every 3 seconds): Battery issue detected – please contact Dat Bike
  • Flashing red (every 1 second): Charging in progress
  • Solid green: Battery fully charged

4.3. Notes on Charging

Unlike other types of batteries, the Dat Battery 72V can be charged at any time without worrying about battery degradation. Once fully charged, the charger will automatically stop.

The included charger is a high-power electrical device (1000W). To ensure a stable power supply and prevent fire hazards, always plug the charger directly into a wall outlet.

If you must use an extension cord or power strip, make sure it can safely deliver a continuous current of 10 Amps. This specification is usually indicated on the product by the manufacturer—please check your equipment before charging.

Dat Bike recommends not sharing the same outlet with other electrical devices while charging, to avoid overloading and potential fire risks.

4.4. Notes for Long-Term Storage

If you do not plan to use the bike for an extended period (more than 7 days), charge the battery to around 50% (73V) before storing it. This helps maximize battery lifespan.

5. Common Self-Protection Modes

5.1. Power Overload

When continuous power overload is detected for more than 7 seconds, the bike will automatically cut off power to protect the battery. This causes the throttle and motor to stop responding, and the LCD screen will start flashing.

If you immediately release the throttle, the bike will return to normal operation.

5.2. High Temperature

When riding at high speed for an extended period (over 1 hour), the controller may overheat due to insufficient heat dissipation. In this case, the bike will automatically reduce power and slow down. If the temperature continues to rise, the bike will eventually stop completely.

At that point, the LCD screen and other electrical components will still function, but the motor will no longer operate.

You should move the bike to a cool place and wait for the controller to cool down before it can function normally again.

6. Quick Troubleshooting Guide

6.1. Unusual Noise When Pushing the Bike

The brake pads may be new or dirty. Apply a lubricant spray such as RP7 or WD-40 to the brake pads to resolve the issue.

6.2. Weak Hand Brakes

Check the brake fluid at the brake lever. If the fluid level is low, refill it and tighten the brake line properly.

6.3. Flat Tire

The Weaver uses standard rims and tires, so repairing a flat tire is no different from conventional motorcycles.

7. Accessories and Custom Parts

Dat Bike is continuously researching and developing a wide range of accessories and custom parts to meet personalization needs and enhance the riding experience for customers. You can explore some of the official products currently available from Dat Bike below.
